Q1. Our Army doctrine states that future wars will be conducted in a 'Joint Environment'. A pre-requisite for the successful conduct of "Joint Operations", is our understanding of the term and its principles. While our armed forces have embarked on the journey towards achieving "Jointness", it is an acknowledged fact that we have yet to achieve the desired synergy in joint planning and conduct of operations. With this as a background, answer the following :-

(a) Define "Jointmanship" and list the principles of "Joint Operations" given in the IA Doctrine.

(b) In your view, what specific measures need to be implemented at the strategic and operational levels for achieving genuine synergy in planning, conduct and logistics sustenance of joint operations by our armed forces?

Q2. The peculiar nature of operations in the Line of Control (LC) environment envisages effective domination of the LC. In order to maintain the sanctity of LC, particularly in the prevailing "No War No Peace" posture, discuss the design of defensive operations along the LC to include the following :-

(a) Salient characteristics of defenses on LC and the pattern of Defensive Operations.

(b) Modus operandi of enemy troops/militants attempting to intrude into our territory.

(c) Method of dominating the LC, counter infiltration measures and actions required to be undertaken on detection of enemy encroachment.

Q3. Future conflicts are likely to be short duration wars fought against a nuclear backdrop with little or no warning time. In order to inflict maximum damage on the adversary and fulfill the war aims in the shortest possible time, it would be an operational imperative, to synergize all resources available in the theatre. (a) What is your visualization of the inter-operability between the Ground Holding (pivot) and the Strike Corps in a theatre?

(b) What assistance can be provided by the Pivot Corps to the Strike corps?
